Holiday Gear Gift Guide

The holidays are approaching! I cannot believe that this year flew by and that the holidays are almost here again. As we all begin to think about any gifts we may want/need to purchase, I compiled a list of my absolute favorite items for the semi-granola-outdoorsy-gearhead in your life. These are all items that I have owned, loved, and would repurchase without hesitation. I also included a couple items that I’ve been (eagerly) wanting at the end (hint, hint, Santa).

Eagle Creek Gear Pouches & Cubes – $15 – $47

For folks that hyper-fixate on organization and love having different pouches for different items, Eagle Creek’s gear cubes will provide them with endless fun. I use these on every trip for all of my camera gear and don’t ever worry that my cameras are fumbling around in my backpack or at risk of getting damaged. They are water resistant, durable, and come in several sizes. I use the small for my go-to camera equipment on trips which includes several film cameras, my Fujifilm, and all chargers, batteries, and extra film.

Darn Tough Socks- $24

Okay, I know that getting or giving socks isn’t the most exciting present, but hear me out…Darn Tough socks are remarkable. They are extremely reliable, have perfect cushion, are made to last in Vermont, and have excellent warranty. Plus, they have such cute designs in all levels of weight. I wear these anytime I hike, camp, flyfish, or go on any leisure walk.

BrüMate Spillproof/Leakproof Mug- $30

One thing about me is that I will likely spill my beverage…unless I have my spillproof mug. I particularly enjoy using my Brümate Toddy because not only does it keep my drink hot, but I can lock it shut and set it down without worrying that it’s going to spill in the car, in my backpack, on the floor, etc. However, if I were to get another spillproof mug, I’d probably opt for this one, just because of the sleek design- I think it would fit backpack pockets better without the handle.

Owala FreeSip Water Bottle– $38

AKA the best water bottle ever. I realize that it is likely the person you are gift searching for may already have a water bottle…but do they have one that you can sip from a straw And tilt to chug from AND has a spillproof design? Plus, check out all of the great colorways- an excellent opportunity to pick a specific one that reminds you of that special person.

Peak Design Capture 3.0 Camera Clip– $75

This a tiny but mighty accessory that any outdoorsy individual that carries a camera will appreciate. This camera clip allows you to go hands-free until you need access to your camera- and when you do, it is as easy as pressing a button and pulling it out of the clip. I typically have one clip on each strap: one for film and the other for my DSLR. My neck is usually thankful I don’t have the weight of a camera hanging off and it’s nice not to worry about our gear bouncing around and hitting anything.

Baboon To The Moon Go-Tote Mega- $149

Okay, here me out on this one. I know this is a steep price for a tote bag, but this thing is HUGE (40L) It is also extremely durable and has plenty of pockets and webbing, making it perfect for hauling any and all gear on road-trips, camping trips, weekend trips, etc. Make this your “catch-all” bag for any adventure. Also, if you can wait for a sale, select colors typically go on sale for half off.

Note: Cotopaxi also make a really tempting 60 liter gear-hauling bag and you can choose to get it in a one-of-a-kind colorway. This is pretty tempting…

Blundstone Boots ~$229

This is an obvious choice for most all “granola” / outdoorsy folks. They are popular for a reason! This specific boot in Taupe is my go-to everyday boot for most of the year. I would do a half size up for a wider, more comfortable fit (plus you could wear thicker socks). Note: They are pricey but if you are on a tighter budget (aren’t we all), then check out Sierra Stores (online and in store). They have Blundstones for half the price.

Okay, and now here are some things that I’ve been thinking about for some time.

TRAILS: A Parks Game– $20

This game just appears so pleasant to play. “In TRAILS, players hike back and forth along the Trail, gathering resources, taking pictures, and encountering wildlife to gain bonuses.” I’m not even the most board game-friendly enthusiast kind of person, but this just sounds like a lovely way to spend a quiet night in. Plus, I don’t think the game itself is very large so it is likely very travel-friendly.

A Selk’ Bag– $199

Picture emerging from your tent on a camping trip at night and seeing a sky full of stars. You want to stay out and photograph them…but it’s cold. You’d love to keep your sleeping bag on…but you can’t just hop around or keep it up. Here comes the Selk’ Bag…a sleeping bag with arms and legs. I desperately want this.

DJI Pocket 3- $ Way too much money

The DJI Pocket 3 is a very recent release that I’ve been eagerly awaiting for over a year. It is a pocket-sized gimbal camera with a rotating screen, subject tracking, stabilization, and so many other excellent features. This would be perfect for traveling, hiking, fly fishing, everything!

Well, that is all for now, friends! I’d love to hear what is on your wishlist for this holiday season!

Until next time,

-Mary A.
